4-Bar Mechanism

Hands-On Learning Project

Spring 2019

Our 3-person team was tasked to create an interactive learning activity to illustrate the behavior and design opportunities in a 4-bar mechanism for students in Dynamics of Rigid Bodies. The activity was requested to have the following attributes:

  1. Lightweight - so professors could easily transport 50-person class size sets to different rooms around campus

  2. Gives students the ability to control the 4 degrees of freedom of the system as continuously as possible - the activity should enable them to design a system that moves along a specified path

  3. Robust to many cycles of use and potential misuse by students

  4. Simple and intuitive component interaction
